Orchestra Miami Pay What You Wish Summer Chamber Series

POSTED BY
Teresa

Orchestra Miami is partnerning with the Music Ministry of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral to create the Saturdays at Trinity Series on Saturdays at 7 p.m. in their historic sanctuary in Downtown Miami. These concerts will feature music performed by soloists from Orchestra Miami along singers from South Florida.

The series will explore the lush and opulent music of the Art Nouveau era (roughly 1885 to the 1930’s). This period is known for its opulence, lushness and eclecticism- music that was often theatrical, grandly scaled, and adorned with complex harmonies.

May 16: Arte Nuova

For this performance the orchestra will explore stile floreale, or “floral style” music.

They will perform…

Il Tramonto is a dramatic lyric poem/cantata composed in 1914 for string quartet and mezzo-soprano based on a poem by Percy Byssh Shelly. The soloist on this piece will be Metropolitan Opera Grand Finalist Award winner Maggie Reneé.

The Piano Quintet in F Minor, composed in 1902 featuring Orchestra Miami’s Huifang Chen and Dale Sandvold on the violin, Gregory Falkenstein on the viola and Susan Bergeron on cello and Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi on the piano.

The program also features the lesser-known work of composer, Giacomo Puccini Crisantemi for string quartet, composed in 1890 as a tribute to the death of Amadeo I of Spain, a son of the Italian King, Vittorio Emanuele II.

They will also perform some of composer Paolo Rosti’s most well-known songs popular during the Belle Époque era. The piece will feature soloist tenor Gerardo Ortega, a frequent Orchestra Miami collaborator.

Admission for this is on a Pay-What-You-Wish basis starting at $5. Free parking is available at the church (tell the attendant you are there for the concert) There is also nearby street parking, in the Omni garage or use the free Metromover to the Omni Station.

The next two concerts are La Musique Nouvelle, Art Nouveau in France on Saturday, June 13, and Neue Musik, the music of the Art Nouveau in Germany and Austria on July 11. Tickets and info are available at www.orchestramiami.org, or call (305) 274-2103.
